Control Room Operator

Atlantic Gold Corporation is developing the 2mtpa Touquoy open pit gold mine and on-site processing plant in central Nova Scotia as part of the Moose River Consolidated Mine. We are currently assembling our key mill operations team and are seeking an experienced, to fill the role of Control Room Operator. This position is based at the Touquoy mine site located approximately 1hour northeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The project is fully funded and permitted and is expected to go into production in fall 2017. Work at one of the best new mines in North America, while living in a city regularly rated as one of the most livable in Canada.

Reporting to the Shift Foreman, the Control Room Operator works to operate the DCS (Distributed Control System) for plant/circuit start-up and shutdown operations in order to meet Company’s objectives and production targets.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Be a visible safety leader
  • Identify safety issues and encourage a site safe work culture with safety being top priority
  • Promote & foster Company goals & objectives with all control room activities
  • Apply all applicable regulations, codes and corporate/site standards to all control room activities
  • Identify safety issues and encourage a site safe work culture with safety being top priority
  • Perform Lock out/Tag out and Try out isolations in accordance with the company’s lock out, tag out procedures
  • Follow security procedures to protect company assets
  •  Operate the DCS (Distributed Control System) for plant/circuit start-up and shutdown operations in order to meet Company’s objectives and production targets
  • Monitor and control all process parameters such as tonnages, densities, P80, pH, flow rates, pressures, temperatures, levels, etc. through controllers, graphics and trend logs
  • Work with process control engineers to identify DCS programming faults and alarms
  • Communicate and coordinate with field operators operating parameter adjustments & troubleshooting
  • Immediately report plant operation parameter abnormalities and deviations to Mill Operators and the Mill Operations Shift Foreman
  • Make minor plant adjustments when necessary and reports any serious faults to the Supervisor with appropriate remedial actions, implements immediately the approved actions, procedures and standard emergency responses
  • Take immediate corrective actions to limit risk to personnel, plant equipment and production during emergency situations including but not limited to gas alarms, fire, faults, tailings line ruptures, spills and accidents
  • Effectively & safely monitor and control the usage of raw materials, chemicals and other plant utilities
  • Assist in preparation of necessary plant operation reports, log books, check-sheets and the like as requested by Mill Operations Shift Foreman or Mill Operations General Foreman
  • Ensure the safe, orderly and timely shutdown of plant circuits during emergency shut down situation
  • Investigate & recommend to the Mill Operations Shift Foreman and the Chief Metallurgist process control opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot operational, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation issues to avoid downtime
  • Champion continuous improvement ideas, applicable best practices and strive for excellence in job performance
  • Follow notification escalation protocol in downtime events
  • Take ownership of the problems in the mill processing plant and their solutions
  • Perform other duties as assigned       

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

  • Ability to work with diverse personalities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Experience working in an industrial process control room setting, gold recovery preferred but other industries also welcome
  • Record of safe work
  • Strong communication skills
