Gold Room Refiner

Atlantic Gold Corporation is developing the 2mtpa Touquoy open pit gold mine and on-site processing plant in central Nova Scotia as part of the Moose River Consolidated Mine. We are currently assembling our key mine operations team and are seeking an experienced, operator to fill the role of Gold Room Refiner. This position is based at the Touquoy mine site located approximately 1hour northeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The project is fully funded and permitted and is expected to go into production in fall 2017. Work at one of the best new mines in North America, while living in a city regularly rated as one of the most livable in Canada.

Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, the Gold Room Refiner is responsible for the Electrowinning, Smelting and day-to-day operation of the Gold Room.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Be a visible safety leader
  • Identify safety issues and encourage a site safe work culture with safety being top priority
  • Promote & foster Company goals & objectives with all smelting and refining activities
  • Apply all applicable regulations, codes and corporate/site standards to all smelting and refining activities
  • Identify safety issues and encourage a site safe work culture with safety being top priority
  • Active member to ensure team & departmental compliance with safety, environmental and operational standards and policy.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to increase the safe production performance of the Moose River Processing Plant.
  • Ensure gold production targets are met or exceeded in a safe and efficient manner by overseeing operation of the gold room including, but not limited to, electrowinning, cell washing, filtering, drying and smelting.
  • Communicate effectively with operation, technical, security and maintenance departments regarding safe production for employees, equipment and the environment.
  • Lead support for gold room commissioning.
  • Develop Standard Work Procedures (SWP) for all related activities.
  • Organize and plan end of month and end of quarter operation to meet production targets.
  • Comply and enforce strict gold room security protocols with regards to ingress, egress and material handling.
  • Work closely with security to coordinate gold room activities such as maintenance services and visitors.
  • Manage inventories of reagents, tools and equipment within the Gold Room to minimize process delays and interruptions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.      

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

  • Ability to work with diverse personalities
  • Experience in electrowinning and gold refining preferred, especially in a start-up environment
  • Diligent in product tracking from electrowinning harvest to shipment
  • Computer literacy skills – Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment
  • Provide a clean police record accompanied with multiple previous work references
  • Experience working in a high security environment.
  • Ability to supervise support and service workers in the gold room
  • Able to perform required duties and meet deadlines with limited supervision
  • Wear personal protective equipment including full face respirators, steel toe shoes, long sleeved shirts, or any other equipment to perform duties safely as required by the Health and Safety plan.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of repeated lifts of up to 25kg
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Monday to Friday shift with potential weekend support to meet end of month production targets
